Good to Know

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you work out of a home studio?

Our studio is located in our home. Keeping our space small and personal lets us pass those savings directly on to you, because ultimately, what you're paying for is the touch itself: skilled, attentive work and real care for the detail of your body. We're a family-oriented practice, proud to serve our community here in Tacoma.

What are your hours?

We don't keep a fixed daily schedule. In general, we're available from midday into the early evening. The most accurate way to see real open times is through the booking calendar, which reflects our current availability.

Where are you located, and is there parking?

Our studio is in our home in Tacoma's Lincoln District, with street parking available nearby. We see one client at a time - no waiting room, no overlap with another appointment - so your session stays private and undistracted from start to finish.

Is the studio wheelchair accessible?

Not at this time. Our home studio is reached by 14 steps leading up to the entrance, and we don't currently have a wheelchair-accessible option. If this is a barrier for you, please reach out and we'll do what we can to help.

Do you accept insurance?

No, we currently do not accept insurance. All sessions are private pay.

What should I expect at my first visit?

When you arrive, you'll complete a short digital intake on an iPad, a system built in-house by Christopher so the entire experience, from booking through your treatment notes, stays seamless and stays between you and your practitioner, without routing through third-party software.

If it's your first visit, or it's been a while and your intake is due for an update, please plan to arrive about 15 minutes early so there's enough time to complete it before your session begins.

Why do you need my health information, and why do I need to update it every year?

In Washington State, massage therapy is classified as healthcare, so we're legally required to collect your name, address, date of birth, consent, and relevant health information as part of your intake.

We ask returning clients to update that paperwork annually, or sooner if you've had a significant change to your health, so we always have accurate information and you're aware of any studio policy updates.

Should I check with my doctor before a massage?

If you have a health condition, a recent injury, or a recent surgery, we recommend checking with your doctor before booking a massage session.

What is your draping and clothing policy?

Washington State requires draping during a massage; the genitals must stay covered at all times, and consent is required before any additional area is massaged.

If you'd rather not undress, yoga pants or other light, non-restrictive clothing works well for many types of massage, and non-revealing swimwear is also acceptable.

Do you use scented products or essential oils in the studio?

We're a synthetic-fragrance-free and harsh-scent-free space; please don't wear strong perfume or cologne, and please don't smoke before coming in.

We do diffuse essential oils in the studio, so if you have any essential oil allergies or sensitivities, please let us know ahead of time.

Is it okay to talk during my session?

Of course. We just find our best work happens when conversation is balanced with moments of quiet, so don't be surprised if your practitioner lets things go quiet here and there.

Do you work with children?

Yes. Both Christopher and Leah work with minors, and Leah especially enjoys working with younger children, so she's often the better fit if you're booking for a younger child specifically.

How do I choose between Christopher and Leah?

Christopher's approach is methodical and structural; he works to identify and correct the muscular and structural patterns causing the root of the problem, rather than just treating symptoms.

Leah's approach centers on nervous system regulation, smooth, flowing bodywork with training in Lomi Lomi, focused mainly on soft tissue work and releasing myofascial restriction.

Both bring their own unique style and blend of techniques. If you're not sure which fits what you're looking for, let us know what you're hoping to feel afterward and we're happy to help you decide.

Can I book an appointment for a partner or family member?

Yes. When you book, just provide that person's own phone number and/or email so we can reach them directly to confirm; at least one is required. If only a phone number is given (no email), they won't currently receive automatic email confirmations or reminders, so please make sure they know to expect a call or text from us.

Is my information kept private?

Yes. The name, phone number, and email you provide when booking are used only to confirm and manage your appointment. We never share or sell your information. All client and health information stays on our own secure, local system; it's never sent to or stored with any third party.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations and no-shows are subject to a 50% cancellation fee. You can cancel your appointment online anytime, or call or text us directly.
